Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Animation Director Calls Japanese Government "Sell Outs" Over A.I. Stance
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 chief animation director Nishii Terumi says the Japanese government is selling out the country and its creators over its A.I. stance, following ChatGPT developer OpenAI's launch of a new Japanese office.
OpenAI's expansion in Japan was criticized this week, intensifying after comments made by the vice president of external relations Anna Makanju. She cited the Japanese government's lax stance on A.I. as a motivation for its decision to launch OpenAI Japan, praising it, "They have adopted a consistent approach of not aiming for strict A.I. regulations." Nishii responded to this, stating, "They steal all they want because we're a content powerhouse -- this is what 'Cool Japan' is really about. They never protect the industry or creators. It was a field where we were winning. The LDP [Liberal Democratic Party] has been in decline for 30 years. They are thoroughly selling out this country." Cool Japan refers to a decades-long government initiative to showcase Japan's cultural influence worldwide.
